You can’t always get what you want

And what Republicans would really like to see is former Governor Steve Merrill come out of political retirement to take on popular Democratic Governor John Lynch. Merrill who led the Republican party through its political high point of the 90’s left office a popular politician and would without a doubt be the strongest candidate the GOP could muster.

When Frank Guinta decided not to seek the office this column produced a short list of possible candidates. Steve Merrill was on that list, but as we stated at that time it was doubtful he would actually make the jump back at this time from the private sector and back into the public eye.

But last night WMUR reported that it was a possibility so we decided to reach out to a few sources close to Merrill and his administration to see if there was anything behind the speculation.

While many Republican officials and activists would love to see Merrill make that jump it seems very doubtful it will happen. These source who are close to Merrill had responses that ranged from “It is not going to happen” to “I think it might be a bit of an ego ride and would seriously doubt it is under active consideration.”

While it was clear most would like to see it happen it is clear that the chances are extremely slim and Republicans should start making other plans.

Repugs

from Alaska to New Hampshire, from Kansas to Arkansas-- it's the same story: people are sick of the Republicans, tired of their rapaciousness, corruption, dishonesty, incompetence, partisan divisiveness and, most of all, sick of Bush and Cheney and their regimeful of thugs and cronies

even Merrill's rangers
