Last week Inside Edge wrote “You can’t always get what you want” when referring to Republicans hopes that former Governor Steve Merrill would come out of political retirement and challenge John Lynch this year. Sources told the Edge it was very unlikely that Merrill would do so. And while nothing has changed as far as Merrill committing, the recruitment hasn’t slowed down.
The Edge has confirmed Merrill is getting encouragement, not only from in state but national Republican leaders who have been calling to encourage Merrill to leave his cushy job at Bingham Consulting and re-enter the public specter. While Merrill is not giving any indication yet that he is interested in this move, he has not told anyone no yet.
